Growing up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Shayla Rozic developed a love for music at a young age. Beginning piano lessons at the age of six, she followed the Conservatory Canada curriculum, completing practical, theory, and history exams over the years. She studied under Deborah Waslynco, who laid the foundation for proper technique while nurturing her passion and enjoyment of playing the piano.

In high school, Shayla expanded her musical interests by participating in band and guitar classes, as well as extracurricular groups such as concert band, stage band, and musical theatre. It was during this time that she discovered the joy of performing with peers in a band setting—an exciting shift from her classical training. As she transitioned into university, she embraced live performance opportunities at venues such as Black Pirates Pub, the Apollo, and Live on the Waterfront.

Shayla pursued an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Music at Lakehead University, refining her technique and performance skills through solo and ensemble work. Under the mentorship of talented instructors, including Dr. Evgeny Chugunov and Colleen Kennedy, she studied both her primary and secondary instruments (piano & oboe). During this time, she also played oboe in the Thunder Bay Community Band. In addition to her studies, she taught piano at Avilla Music School, gaining valuable teaching experience while completing her degree. On weekends she enjoyed accompanying a choir for Sunday mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral.

After completing her HBA, Shayla continued her studies with a Bachelor of Education, gaining experience teaching band and guitar classes for grades 7–12. Upon graduating from the BEd program, she immediately began teaching in small communities around Thunder Bay, working with a wide range of age groups. During her year in Terrace Bay, she taught music to students in grades 1–8 and organized a variety of musical performances for the school.

Following her time in Terrace Bay, she moved to Red Rock, Ontario, where she now teaches at Nipigon-Red Rock District High School. Since joining the school, she has helped establish a music club and has organized various concerts and music programming alongside a team of passionate music educators.

With a deep love for music, Shayla is dedicated to sharing this passion with students of all ages and skill levels, helping them build confidence, technique, and a profound appreciation for the art of making music.
